LOVE FOR LIBRARIES

Scarborough’s libraries are vibrant places to learn, gather and create. Glenn supported literacy programs and enhanced library facilities, which continue to benefit children and all members of the community.

Glenn spent 10 years patiently moving this project from concept to reality! The beautiful library, which opened in May 2015, was an extraordinary addition to the community. Glenn helped library staff get the land for the library, helped save the beautiful oak tree that the entire library is now designed around, and raised additional funds to build a reading garden, special kids’ area and upgraded computer lab, as well as enhanced tree planting in front of the library and a parkette (known as the “Civic Green”) beside the library.

Bendale Library

DSC_0598Glenn brought attention to detail at this charming little neighbourhood library. Here are just a few recent enhancements to this community gem:

  • Glenn had a new set of traffic lights installed at Danforth Road and Barrymore (just step from the library), so that residents could safely cross the street to get to the library.
  • He arranged for the installation of a bus shelter, so that patrons would be protected from the elements as they wait for the bus.
  • Glenn also had new trees planted in the empty “triangle” piece of land directly north of the library, as well as an ornamental flower bed. The old empty triangle is now more alive and welcoming to all who visit the library.
  • Glenn obtained funding to build a new reading garden outside of the library, as well as make internal library improvements, including new tables, new chairs, new kids’ computers and new shelving (designed to foster an open concept).

Our local library was already charming; Glenn just helped make it even more charming!
