SPLASH PADS

Scarborough Centre’s splash pads are great places for children to have fun, keep fit and enjoy play time with their friends and families.

The first splash pad that Glenn helped fund and design is the splash pad in the charming little park called Lee Centre Park. While City staff were hesitant to put a splash pad in the new park—they actually were worried that too many people would come to the park!—Glenn insisted on including a splash pad with multiple sensors for the kids to press and run through. The result? The splash pad has been a huge hit! Lee Centre Park is magical, and a large part of the magic is the laughter from the children enjoying themselves in the splash pad.

Glenn helped build the wildly successful splash pad on Trudelle Street, and rebuild the old playground (adjacent to the new splash pad). He secured the planting of dozens of trees along Trudelle to give the street a more regal look. The splash pad and playground are packed with kids and their parents every hot day of the summer. If fact, there are so many people, the ice cream truck makes regular stops at the park, which adds to the excitement and animation of the street. Kids in nearby high-rises can now spend all day outside playing while their parents rest on the benches or under the shade structure.

Glenn helped build the wonderful splash pad that’s nestled between Woburn Public School/High School and the high-rises on Tuxedo Court. Hundreds of kids and their parents visit the Woburn Park splash pad, during their summer vacations and as part of their daily trips back from school when the weather is warm. In the past, Tuxedo Court had a lot of kids but few facilities for young families. Now, the community has a splash pad located close to a huge playground, basketball and road hockey courts, a large picnic area, and sports fields—everything a family needs to experience low-cost family fun.

Thomson Park Splash Pad

Located between the Thomson Park tennis courts and the Scarborough Museum, this exciting splash pad replaced an old wading pool. As part of the project, Glenn arranged to remove part of the area’s old berm, making the area more open and inviting to the public. An official opening event was held in June 2017 and, throughout the warm weeks that followed, local residents delighted in the whimsical water features—including a spraying frog—as well as the colourful, shaded seating areas.

Meadowglen Park

This new splash pad is approved, fully funded by a developer, and it will open soon after the area’s new condominium building is finished. While we will have to wait another year or two for this splash pad to open, the entire community in that area will eventually have an amazing new park and splash pad to enjoy.

Albert Campbell Park

Glenn has ensured that the many new features being built in Albert Campbell Park include a water feature/splash pad. Expected to be completed by 2019, this project is approved and funded, and its design will be slightly different than most traditional splash pads. Its water feature will resemble the splash pads in Nathan Phillips Square and Dundas Square—jets of water will erupt from the concrete base to surprise, delight and soak any child or adult brave enough to enter the splash zone! Greenbrae Circuit Splash Pad

Glenn plans to bring another amazing splash pad to the many kids who live in the high-rise buildings along Greenbrae Circuit and in the subdivision to the north. The fully revamped Greenbrae Circuit Parkette, now in the final planning stages, will also feature a picnic area, games tables, a new playground and a gazebo.

705 Progress Avenue

Plans are well under way to build a beautiful new 10-acre park at 705 Progress Avenue to enrich the lives of the many families living in the area. The new park will include a splash pad, which is bound to be a hit with the area’s many children.
